Windows XP Professional has also been developed with Microsoft’s .NET strategy in mind, meaning that it will become a platform for delivering important .NET services, such as Instant Messaging and Passport authentication. Plus, Windows XP Professional will provide a rich programming platform for supporting multiple peer-to-peer and Web-hosted services. A 64-bit version of Windows XP Professional is being developed in parallel with Intel’s 64-bit processor (code-named Itanium) and is expected to ship at the same time as Itanium.
