Precious and Temporal | |
---|---|
A: Life is Precious. All life has
great value because it was created by God. Humans were
created in the image of God. All earthly life
has great value. Healing and compassion are appropriate, grateful
responses to God's gift of life. |
B: Life is
Temporal. Only God and His Word have permanence. Our real
life is hidden with Christ in God. If we only have hope in
this life, we are of all men most miserable.
This life is not solid enough to provide
a firm foundation for faith, hope, and compassion toward
others. |
-B: Earthly-minded: "Only this earthly life is important; talk of heaven only distracts people from practical living and helping others. What we do in this life is all that matters." But why try if there is no hope? |
-A: Heavenly-minded: "It is futile to attempt to hold on to that which is passing away. Our life is but a vapor; we should set our minds on heaven and eternity. Have no care about earthly life." But what are we to do while we have this life? |
